First issued in 1987, the Gold Britannia is The Royal Mint’s flagship bullion coin and one of the most recognised gold coins in the world. The reverse features Philip Nathan’s classic standing Britannia with shield, trident and olive branch, while the obverse carries the effigy of the reigning monarch. Since 2021 every Britannia bullion coin has incorporated four advanced security features, including a latent image, surface animation, micro-text and tincture lines, making it one of the most secure bullion coins available.
